MICHAEL BOLINSKI - E,F Mining the Acting Clues In Shakespeare's First Folio ~ When Shakespeare’s plays were first presented, there was no rehearsal period or director. How did the actor’s go about developing characterization? They looked at the words, specifically the manner in which Shakespeare laid the words on the page (before modern editors got there hands on them). In the First Folio, the original complete works of William Shakespeare, Shakespeare presents clues to his fellow actors through his use of capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and a variety of rhetorical devices. Learn how these clues still present dynamic bedrock for characterization and electrify your use of Elizabethan language.
Michael Bolinski is a third-year MFA Directing student at the University of Memphis. He formed a First Folio-based acting troupe in his hometown of Waterbury, Connecticut, where he has mounted productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, and Much Ado About Nothing. GORDON HENSLEY - A,B Playback Theatre ~ In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of Playback Theatre. Participants will be telling their own stories and transforming them into improvised theatre. This form combines music, acting, directing, voice, creative movement, and improvisation. Playback Theatre is based on true personal stories, it lends itself to multiple themes, while encouraging participants to explore their lives in a reflective way. This form is applicable in the classroom rehearsals!
C,D,E,F Airbrush Makeup ~ This technology and technique workshop focuses on airbrush application techniques. The makeup artist will hold a question and answer session as he demonstrates on workshop participants. Discussion topics include airbrush systems and materials, health & safety, painting techniques, and shading & highlighting. Doug Johnson is a working actor in Memphis, TN. He holds a BFA in theatre from the University of Memphis, and studied Commedia dell'Arte in Arezzo Italy. In addition to touring with ShoWagon of Theatre Memphis, Doug freelances as a stilt-walker, clown, mask-maker and juggler. HOLLY LAU - E,F Introduction to Playback Theatre ~ Playback theatre is a form of improvisational storytelling theatre. The Playback 'form' utilizes component theatrical forms or pieces, developed from improvisational theatre, storytelling, and psychodrama. These components include scenes (also called stories or vignettes) and narrative or non-narrative short forms, including fluid sculptures, pairs, and chorus. In a playback event, someone in the audience tells a moment or story from their life, chooses the actors to play the different roles, and then all those present watch the enactment, as the story 'comes to life' with artistic shape and nuance. Actors draw on non-naturalistic styles to convey meaning, such as metaphor or song.

Anita Jo Lenhart earned her MFA in Directing from Florida State University in 1987. Her directing career has focused primarily on Theatre for Youth, directing more than ten seasons for the Memphis Moving Line, eight seasons with The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, and four seasons with The Moving Company in Tallahassee, Florida. A classically trained singer, Jo has performed as a soloist with Opera Memphis, the Memphis Symphony, and the San Francisco based Lamplighter’s Musical Theatre. Jo teaches acting, somatics, and theatrical voice at the University of Memphis. She is a certified Bikram Yoga teacher and counts Arthur Lessac, founder of The Lessac Institute, as a dear friend and mentor in teaching voice.
